We’ve been busy replacing a bunch of roofs around the Triangle! But there’s one roof color that stands out and is great for the summer heat of NC. It’s the beautiful eye-catching gray shingle called Silver birch by CertainTeed! It’s an Energy Star qualified roofing product and does an excellent job at reducing roof temperatures. We think it looks great, too!
Read on to learn more about this product and the Energy Star rating.
Americans spend about $40 billion annually on air condition buildings – sixth of all electricity generated in this country.
ENERGY STAR is a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) voluntary program that helps businesses and individuals save money and protect our climate through superior energy efficiency.
What are Energy Star Qualified Roofing Products?
ENERGY STAR qualified roof products reflect more of the sun’s rays. The product helps to decrease the amount of heat transferred into a building. This can lower a roof’s temperature down to even 50 degrees Fahrenheit!
Furthermore, these products can help reduce the amount of air conditioning needed in buildings and can reduce peak cooling demand by 10-15%!
Although there are inherent benefits in the use of reflective roofing, we recommend calculating your expected savings before selecting the shingle.
The expected calculated results can be found on the Department of Energy’s “Roof Savings Calculator” website.
Please note that Energy Savings are highly dependent on facility design, insulation used, climatic conditions, building location, and building envelope efficiency.
