Leaks Are Clues Not Flukes – the Truth Behind Roof Leaks

Ceiling water stains and leak

Notice a roof leak after the last big storm? Storms are a common occurrence here in North Carolina. But roof leaks shouldn’t be.

If you spot a roof leak, your roof might need more than a band-aid fix.

Sometimes, it’s just replacing a roof boot.

Other times, leaks are clues that something bigger is wrong with your roof.

Roofs need maintenance in order to last until their “best by” date. In fact, roof boots only last about 8-10 years before the rubber starts to wear down.

If your roof is leaking and 10+ years old, you may want to consider scheduling a tune-up.

During a roof tune-up, our team inspects your roof and performs general maintenance. A technician reseals pipe collars and exhaust fans, repairs flashing, nails down any loose shingles, and replaces boot flashing and broken or missing shingles. It’s an excellent way to preserve and extend the life of your roof.

If your roof is 15+ years old, it may be nearing the end of its life. Consider having an informal inspection done to determine the status of your roof. The inspection will show if you need either a tune-up or a roof replacement in the near future.

But what if your roof is brand new or less than 10 years old? A new leaky roof is typically a sign of a bad install. If your new roof is leaking and no longer under warranty, we recommend calling a local roofing expert to inspect your entire roof to check for any installation errors.

Remember, leaks are clues that something bigger is going on. At Artisan Quality Roofing, we are here to help you with any roofing issues – whether it be a leak, tune-up, or total roof replacement.
