Is My Roof Ventilation Increasing My Utility Bill?

Old attic space interior with poor roof ventilation

Is your roof ventilation increasing your utility bill?

Insufficient attic ventilation causes the heating/cooling system to run excessively.

In warm weather, inadequate ventilation will trap hot air in the attic. The result? Either your air conditioning unit will work harder, or your home will become hotter and less comfortable.

In both hot and cold weather, insufficient attic ventilation may cause moisture in the attic to become trapped and condense on the rafters. This condensed moisture can drip down onto the insulation and reduce its effectiveness.

What does this mean? Inadequate ventilation = possible increase in utility bill.

At Artisan, during the roof replacement process, we assess your roof’s ventilation system to determine whether you need an attic fan or ridge vent based on the shape and structure of the roof.

We install dual humidistat attic fans by Airvent that come with a good product warranty. For our ridge vents, we install filtered ridge vents to allow proper air ventilation while keeping out debris.
