Roof Shingle Colors | New Blog Series

Home with spring garden - brick siding - beautiful asphalt shingle roof

When you think “roof replacement”, we’re guessing the word “fun” doesn’t come to mind. Instead, you’re probably thinking, “time, money, energy, investment, complicated…” All the things. The one fun thing about it? Exploring roof shingle colors for your house.

Of course, even that can come with feelings of overwhelm and decision fatigue. After all, a roof isn’t a piece of clothing you can return if it doesn’t match. Your roof will hopefully be up there for 30+ year if the roof is installed correctly.

To help reduce the overwhelm, we are launching a NEW blog series on roof shingle colors!

As local roofing experts, we are excited to share this content with you. Prior to working on this series, we conducted extensive research to see what top questions your asking. We also looked into what resources would be most helpful for you.

To kick things off, we are going to provide you a sneak peak into each topic we’ll cover in the series. As we launch each new blog post, we’ll link it in this post so you’ll have all the resources in one spot. This series covers all things color when it comes to asphalt shingles, in particular.

Topic 1: Shingle Colors and Textures by Brand

Shingle colors and textures go hand-in-hand. In fact, roofing manufacturers use the shingle granule colors to manufacture certain looks and textures. One example of this would be GAF’s Natural Shadow shingle line, which mimics the texture and warmth of wood.

In this blog post, we will compare the top three shingle brands (CertainTeed, Owen’s Corning, and GAF). We’ll dive into how their different approaches to color variation contribute to the texture of a roof. Next, we’ll discuss how shingle textures affect your roof color choice. Lastly, we ‘ll go over how to decide what shingle texture would look best for your home.

Topic 2: How To Pick Roof Shingle Colors

This is definitely our favorite post. Different roofing contractors offer different resources to help you select a color. We won’t get into it now, but we have a lot of opinions about how some contractors approach this…Let’s just say that some contractors have you choose a roof color from a 1 square inch sample (insert eye-roll here).

To help you avoid selecting a roof color you might later regret, we are going to put together a comprehensive guide for how to choose a roof shingle color, step-by-step.

In this guide, we won’t be telling you what to think or what roof color to pick. Instead, we’ll show you the best steps you can take to help you decide what you want for your home and roofing system.

Topic 3: The Color Matching Guide

Farmhouse style home with white siding, black roof, and black gutters - utilizes complementary color scheme

Okay, we know we just said we weren’t going to tell you what to think, but we might offer a few ideas here.

In this post, we will discuss the various components to a home’s exterior, the different colors of your home exterior (siding, gutters, trim, etc.), and what color combinations work best when picking a color for your roofing system. The goal here is to find a color combination that will complement each area of your home plus increase overall curb appeal.
